On the heels of a project begun six years ago, John Dill revisited his own personal journey, adding dimension to his original video exploration shown back in November of 2013. This show beautifully expands on the original, which came out of a traumatic life experience. On a tropical beach holiday, after a slip in some water, a seemingly benign fall became an entirely “other” trippy, wild voyage caused by a detached retina, transporting him to various bustling cities, all the while seeing the wildest of kaleidescope of reality.
Ever the life enthusiast, Dill documented the experience as best his eyes allowed, and we all followed his journey. All those years ago, with some healing to allow his return flight to NY from Bali, Dill expressed how he really wanted to find a way to visually re-create this experience to share with others. Having gone through my own health scare, and finding such inspiration in art and the capacity it has to relate and transcend, I couldn’t wait to see what he had in store.
