I am loving Copenhagen. There is literally art or gorgeous architecture at every turn! Even the apartment we're staying in is so simple, yet filled with the most exquisite details. Unlike the stark, modern interiors of many NY living spaces, or a crammed studio space, the clean, simple lines are warmed by the company of various plants, a collection of unique paintings, and hand-selected furnishings and decorative objects.
If my visiting residence is not enough to inspire, I am accompanied by the warm greeting of hourly chimes - reminding me of childhood and my Grandparents clocks' as well as four years’ Catholic school days of long ago. I feel the "hygge." What a lovely place!

Inspiration for MELT
The inspiration for this art show came to me when I heard that August is a flat month for art and many people leave the city during that month. I thought, what better time to pull together some of my extremely creative friends, and put on a show for those of us in town. I also wanted to use this as a vehicle for people I know, and Verboten knows, as creative people, who might be more known for their other connections and jobs, than their art work.
Reka Nyari, probably the best known for her portraits and fashion editorials shoots, photographs professionally and for fun. You can always tell her work by the intense connection the viewer has to subject, and its provocation. In this show, I wanted to feature some of her less commercial work, new to the public.
Chris Callaway is a commissioned fashion photographer and videographer. He is passionate about the native stewards of the American lands and conducted a series of documentary portraits and short videos with Native Americans which received a good deal of press coverage. In this show he created mixed media pieces, using original photography and acrylics, onto a 6 part installation.
Mike Prieto works in advertising for a living, and photographs events, but many haven't seen his personal photography. This show gave him a chance to create some new work for his portfolio and a broader audience, as well as play with special lighting techniques.
Gala Derroisne has spent years photographing events, capturing images for various special projects as well as splitting her time at an organic store in New Jersey. You might have met her at an event over the past few years, so we are eager to have her work in this collective.
Thayne Knop is an exceptionally creative person, who works full time as a Senior Director, Content Creation and Digital Workflow, but has collected art pieces and loves seeking out objects with a humorously dark twist. He is creating a mixed media sculpture specific to this show.
I am happy to have pulled together such a diverse group and to share their work with you. It has been exciting to have the artists create new work specific to this show.
All works are available for sale.
Melt with us on Thursday 8/21
